DISCOVER SOUTHFIELD

Southfield is a lovely rural village, home to many multi-generational southern Berkshire families, transplants from New York, eastern Massachusetts, and beyond. Southfield is one of the five villages that make up the Town of New Marlborough. The village is a 20-minute drive from Great Barrington.

Primarily residential, Southfield is situated along Norfolk Road, which runs north-to-south from the new bridge adjacent to the New Marlborough/Southfield Road and continues to the Connecticut border. The Whip Shop is located in the center of the village. In its heyday, it was Southfield’s principal employer.

The Whip Shop’s next-door neighbor is the United Church of New Marlborough, more commonly called the Southfield Church, and its Ladies Aid Hall. In addition to church services, several wonderful musical events are hosted there throughout the year The Ladies Aid Hall is home to a variety of community functions, most notable being the annual Christmas gifts sale. Across the road is the Volunteer Fire Department and EMT services.

A few short steps north of the WhipShop (actually, a 3-minute walk according to Google) is the Southfield Store — a friendly cafe with excellent food, espresso drinks, and delicious house-made baked goods. “The Store” as it’s known. is open from 7am to 4pm, serving breakfast and lunch and a spectacular Sunday Brunch. The Store is the hub of community life in the village.
